Cohen Wylie (guitar, vocals, production), Stuart Downie (drums, vocals), Justyn Horlick (synth, guitar) and Collin Horlick (bass, bass synth) started performing together in high school. Most of The Crowleys have been together for over a decade- allowing the group to blend naturally over time. That said, the energetic instrumentals provide a hopeful contrast to the lyrics and we want the listener to feel that.” The contrast between those in their ivory towers and the down-trodden embodies the class-divide that exists due to systemic injustice. “The imagery in the song is quite strong – one might picture the homeless, felled trees, and the grey urban sprawl. “Giuliana’s lyrics fit with the song’s gritty, driving energy and continue with the dystopian themes of the two previous singles.” says a press release from the band. According to the band, the lyrics, written by vocalist Giulianna Frontini, are inspired by songs from The Shangri-Las, The Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison and other artists “who have songs about crying in the rain.” The third single to be released in anticipation of the band’s full-length record, “Sewer Drain” covers similar dystopian themes that the band explored on previous singles. Following the success of 2021 single, Lampshade, psych-rock-pop band The Crowleys are back with a new single, “Sewer Drain,” to be released May 25.
